The Win 7 type Start Menu sometimes combined files from both in it's All Programs list. Also, StarDock has an app called Start 8 for $5 that restores the Win 7 style start start button and features. It will also bypass the start screen and go directly to the desktop should you so choose.

Hi Brian, In case you are looking for a Start screen instead of Start menu option. You may turn on the Tablet Mode on the system. This will enable a Start screen instead of a desktop and you can view all the apps on the home screen. Follow the below steps to change the view to Tablet. Select the horizontal stripes icon (All Apps) on the bottom left corner of the screen. Select Settings on the menu.

Go to System and then click on Tablet Mode. Turn the option ON.
