Once you plug your phone to the computer, these features can be accessed from the main menu with a series of bright and bold icons for ease of use. There are 4connectivity options: Bluetooth, infrared, serial cable (CA-42) and USB cable. The last one is the fastest. In case of some connection problems or unavailability of file transfer or other functions, you'd better unplug the device and try a new connection a few moments later. It includes handy messaging functions.
You write your SMS on your computer and then send it to one of your contacts in your address book. The other useful function of Nokia PC Suite is that it can be used to view and to convert videos. It is then possible to convert any film into the format compatible with your Nokia phone. Pros.
Intuitive interface. Fast synchronization. Several tools for phone enhancement. Cons. Not compatible with all Nokia devices. Some bugs when trying to pair the phone and the computer.
Hi, Fine, so the association can be changed easily, but only for the current user. In addition, at least in Windows XP the application launcher icon remains. How can I change the association and icon.for all users.? If somebody from Nokia is listening: please make this file association optional in software installation.
As it is now I feel that your installation program is messing with something it should not touch without permission. There must be others that share this opinion. Look how much trouble you have caused (e. Thread 'Unwanted Nokia Application Installer upon pc startup')!!! My thinkin is that if you have an installation program that asks questions about file associations, you are making software for engineers. Many PC Suite users out there would not have a glue what is asked and for many such questions would be a turn-away for the whole PC Suite. My pet is that similarly to this file association with java, the PC Suite by default listens to Infrared, Bluetooth and USB and COM ports so that users experience an automatic connection if they just follow the steps in installation & get connected.
PC Suite is for millions of users who don't know too much about PC's (and don't care), so I think the installation of PC Suite is pretty much the way it is supposed to be. What would be useful is more information on help or FAQ pages about that. On the other hand, we all know that engineers handly ever read any instruction guides or helps:). Don't you agree that you do not want to install software that affect the function of other programs, probably in some harmful way? At least you would like to be warned beforehand, wouldn't you.
Changing file association affects other software definitely. There are many examples of graphics viewers and editors, for example, that change file associations without permission and cause lots of trouble (Irfanview is an exception). I am writing this primarily because I feel that many people, like me, get a negative first impression on Nokia's software. This could be avoided so easily. Anyway, I am not suggesting something that adds much complexity. The user does not need to be.asked. about file associations.
There could be just a check box somewhere (defaulting 'Yes, go ahead and change associations'). Or, if that is too complicated after all, please provide a command line switch for us engineers. I find it quite annoying that every JAR file shows Nokia icon. The default association is still the application launcher. Please help a poor engineer to get rid of that association!
There must be an easy way! Well, most of the normal end users, let's say average Joe from Texas, don't understand anything, when you ask something about the file associations from them. They are just scrared about those. But we, who understand the file associations, and if we get annoyed, when some software 'steals' association from other application, can fix the problem easily. Software designers need to make decisions all the time.

Many times it's better to make software easy for 90 average users and let 10 advanced users to make needed changes by themselfs. If you are really annoyed, you can write with Perl or Python your script to set all the file associations for your programs as you wish automatically. Then set Windows Task Scheduler or something similar to run the script nightly.

Mistermobile, the world is full of software that is made just the way you prefer. Therefore a careful user would 'google' around before installing any new software to see what negative effects it may have. I may be a fool, but if I were designing those programs I would not be proud of decisions that make 10% of users angry - in particular those users that like new technology and may affect other people's buying decisions. (Of course one cannot please everyone, but I have a feeling that this 10% may be realistic, indeed, and I fear in Nokia's case this means 100,000s of users, at least.) I can now answer my own questions. Start regedit (as an administrator), go to HKEYCLASSESROOT.jar and make a backup. My backup was: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 HKEYCLASSESROOT.jar @='Nokia.ApplicationInstaller' HKEYCLASSESROOT.jar Nokia.ApplicationInstaller HKEYCLASSESROOT.jar Nokia.ApplicationInstaller ShellNew Then change the default key from 'Nokia.ApplicationInstaller' to 'jarfile'. Delete the subkeys.
Hi there, I wish I understood the last contribution, cause it could be the start of a solution to my problems, but my knowledge of registry editing isn't up to it. I used a nice jar programme called BORG calendar until I installed Nokia PC Suite. I share(d) the calendar with 2 co-workers so that we have a good overview of each others' appointments, so BORG is not just a toy for me, and I'd like it back, but it won't work at all anymore on my machine - it won't even install again since I installed PC Suite. Whatever changes Nokia made to my system in the installation process, it's obviously not just a 'simple' association to.jar files. Crayon physics deluxe full version. The kind of message I consistently get no matter what I try is Exception in thread 'main' java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError - for example: 'Exception in thread 'main' java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/izforge/izpack/installer/Installer'. I have the latest version of Java, the files I'm trying to install are not corrupted, and I have no idea any more what to do.
